Network Marketing Skills You Need To MasterLet’s talk about network marketing and the skills that it takes to really make it and become successful. If you have an idea in your mind that you suck as I did, I will tell you that there are not many people that suck more than I did. I want to give you a four-step process to making it regardless of how much you suck. I’m going to give you kind of the framework for what I went through over my five years of figuring it out which has ultimately led to almost two decades now of financial freedom. I struggled when I first got involved in network marketing and if you’re anything like me, you know what I’m talking about. It’s a foreign concept. It’s hard. You may think, “I don’t know what the hell I’m doing. I’m afraid of rejection. I’m afraid of what people are going to think. It’s a new world for me.” You’re excited about the opportunity. You’re pumped up. You want to make it work but don’t know how to get through the initial process. I know because that’s exactly what I went through for a long period of time so we’re going to talk about some of the things that got me out of it. The Struggles of When I First Got Involved in Network MarketingI got started in network marketing 18 years ago. The person who got me involved introduced me to their up line and in their compensation plan, you needed to enroll six people. And that led to six who get four, who get two, and the guy said, “It’s only six. It’s easy. You can do this.” When he told me that I could do it, that was more belief than I had, but I just decided that if he says it’s easy, I’ll jump in. I’ve never told anyone it’s easy. Don’t ever do that. That will definitely come back to bite you. When I got in, I made absolutely no money. I’m incredibly thankful for the process because I believe in the beginning, it’s way more important to learn than earn. It allowed me to establish a foundation of success. It was really a foundation of personal development. I got exposed to personal development books. I had never read a personal development book before this. My sponsor gave me the book Think and Grow Rich, and it blew my mind when I read it. I started dreaming and having hope for the future. They say when there’s hope for the future, there’s power in the present. It gave me power but nonetheless, after two years of going to events and reading books, I had sponsored three people. Two of which I paid for to get in. One was my mom. I never even told her she was in. Two Years and No SuccessThe one person who I did enroll, quit right after and after two years, there was one person in my group. It was me. That was it. And it didn’t get much better from there. I joined another company and I failed miserably. I joined another company and I failed miserably, and I joined another, and another, and another. There was so much frustration. I don’t know if you’ve ever had social anxiety but I had massive social anxiety talking to people. I wondered to myself, “What the hell is wrong with me? Why can’t I make this work?” I would go to events and see other people who got in after me passing me up and I felt left behind in a massive way. I’d see people who were no smarter than me making it and I would beat myself up. I would tell myself that I wasn’t old enough or smart enough, wasn’t good enough with people, wasn’t a good public speaker. I was never going to make this work. Thankfully, I just hung around long enough. Hang Around Long EnoughThere’s one key. Simply hanging around long enough until you can get the belief because what happens is we all come into this profession at a different level. On a leadership scale, you may be coming in at a three, or a four, or five, but that’s not enough of a level of leadership to go out and really make a lot of money. You need to develop yourself into a six, a seven, and an eight if you want to make some serious income. Realize that if you want to build a really tall building, in many cases, you’re going to have to dig a really deep foundation. Thankfully, I had some foundational years that laid a solid foundation which ultimately has led to my financial freedom. I’ve been able to travel to 80 countries around the world. It has been a crazy, amazing life. I personally believe that it’s possible for just about anyone. Almost anyone can make it work. I can’t think of many situations where you can’t because I’ve seen so many people from so many different walks of life who have way more excuses than the people who failed but they made it anyway. I’ve seen 18-year-olds who hit the top rank in the company at 21. One of my buddies is 24 and a multimillionaire. He came in with no experience or credibility but he made it work. Why did he make it work? He had a massive desire. He had a massive determination and was willing to go do the work. What I want to get across to you as much as anything else is if I can do it and if everyone else can do it, you can do it. Network Marketing Skills You Need to Master:#1 – Commit to the ProcessThat leads me to the first networking skill you need to master which is you’ve got to commit to the process. You’ve got to commit to making it work. Nothing works until you make the decision to say, “I am going to make this work. There’s no way I am going to fail.” You may fail as far as getting rejected. That’s going to happen. You may have people quit on you. That’s going to happen. It doesn’t matter how good you are, you’re going to have people quit on you. You’re going to have people that tell you that you’re crazy. People will laugh at you and ridicule you. You’re going to have to be okay with a lack of social acceptance from ignorant people for a period of time. When it flips, it flips. Those people are going to be like, “Oh my gosh. I always knew you could do it.” In some cases, they’re going to say you got lucky, the timing was right for you, and it wasn’t for them. People are going to make up all kinds of bullshit as to why they can’t do it. That’s okay. That’s part of the game. As you become a professional, one of the things that you’re going to have to remember is it’s all part of the game. Crazy Things HappenThere is going to be some crazy ass things that happen. What happens is when crazy things happen, and we get frustrated about it, and we feel like it shouldn’t be happening, and shaming other people, that’s where you go off onto the shoulder of frustration and the ditch of discouragement. I don’t care how crazy it gets. I know it’s all part of the game. Remember that. I was talking to someone this morning at the coffee shop and we got to talking about network marketing, and he was saying he was involved in this company and a bunch of people left to go to this other company. That’s also just part of the game. Every year or two, another company will pop up and people are going to be like, “Oh man.” A bright shiny object. “The grass is greener on the other side.” Listen, I’ve been doing this for 24 years of my life. Every year or two that’s just what happens. You’re going to have people who were going to leave anyway, but if you think it’s not part of the game, it pulls you off course. Network Marketing Skills You Need to Master:#2 – Decide You’re Going to Make itYou’ve got to be willing to stay the course. The second network marketing skill you need to master is making the decision that you are going to make it. That’s when everything came together for me. When I decided that network marketing was going to be my profession, I kept my job to pay my bills long enough to get full time, but my job was my plan B, not my plan A. Network marketing was my plan A. I was able to work myself into a full-time income. Obviously, the sky’s the limit after that. You’ve got to commit to the process. Until you commit, until you make the decision, nothing is going to work in a big way. If you look at any multimillion dollar earner in network marketing, it all started with a decision. Until you make the decision, you are never going to succeed at a high level. Network Marketing Skills You Need to Master:#3 – Master Learning New SkillsThe third network marketing skill you need to master is learning new skills. You need to look at this as a doctor. Doctors go to medical school. Lawyers go to law school. If I were to tell you, “I’m going to be a doctor but I’m not going to go to medical school,” what would you think about me? If I said I was going to be a lawyer and I’m going to skip law school, what would you think about me? You’d think I was crazy, stupid, or both. I would be crazy and stupid if I thought I could be either of those without going to school because that just doesn’t happen. Find a MentorI’m proud of you for watching my Facebook lives and reading my blogs. I’m proud of you for watching my YouTube videos. There are other mentors out there, too. You can watch their stuff. My suggestion to you is to pick one person who you resonate with and learn everything you can from them. When I met my mentor, he didn’t have an online presence, but I decided that he was a guy that I resonated with, someone I respected. I knew he had the goods and produced the results. I learned every single thing I could from him. If you look at my presentations today, they’re almost a copy of his. They’re very, very simple. He taught me things like be entertaining first and informative second. So, my presentations are very entertaining. I joke around a lot. I’m not overly serious in my presentation. I am at times, but in general, I’m having way more fun. Why? Because that’s what I was taught. If you entertain people, you get into their heart and bypass the skepticism. Pick someone and learn everything. I’ve got about 400 videos on YouTube so my coaching to you is to watch them all if you resonate with me. Learn everything I have. There’s a reason why I’ve been able to build an organization that’s grown to over a million customers. It has little to do with me. It has everything to do with the steps that I’m talking about. Network Marketing Skills You Need to Master:#4 – Apply the SkillsYou’ve got to go out and apply the skills because you’ll never get mastery until you apply. It’s kind of like trying to learn how to ride a bike but you try to do so through a book. You can’t learn how to ride a bike only through a book. Maybe you can watch a YouTube video and it’ll give you some suggestions but you have to actually practice. You’ve got to put it in action. It’s the same if you want to learn how to play the guitar. It would be stupid for someone to think they were going to be an amazing guitar player because they watched 100 YouTube videos. No one in their right fucking mind would expect you to be an amazing guitar player after watching a bunch of videos. If you feel like this can add some value to some others, definitely hit the share button. Do you have enough tools in your toolbox? Here are three must-have online marketing tools.
via ShoeMoney http://bit.ly/2WKyWef How to Avoid Dropping Rank in Network MarketingSomeone reached out to me saying, “Oh my God. I’ve hit this level and I’m not at this level now. I want to cry and don’t know what to do. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to get it back.” This is an amazingly common thing. I would almost say every top leader in network marketing at some point has hit a rank and dropped rank. Every leader in network marketing who’s been around for any length of time has had their organization go up and come down a little bit. AttritionUsually, if you have lost your rank in network marketing it’s because you’ve had some attrition. Some customers have come in and you were at a certain level, some customers fell out, and you dropped below that level. So, what do you do about that? I’ll talk a little bit about what you’re going to do about that but more importantly, much more importantly, is what is your mindset about this experience that just happened? Network Marketing Is A BusinessI want everyone to realize that in our profession, it is a business just like any other business in the world. If you were to look at the stock market, how many of you have noticed that the stock market goes up consistently all the time and it never dips? No one has noticed that because it’s just not true. We all know that. It’s common knowledge. It’s common sense. We understand that the stock market doesn’t go up all the time. Apple, the first company to get to a trillion dollars in market cap is now at $816 billion. They were a trillion dollar company and now they’re not. Does that mean Apple’s going to go out of business? Does it mean that Apple’s business model is broken? Not at all. Look at Amazon. Amazon’s stock goes through the roof and then it comes down. Does that mean that the Amazon business model doesn’t work? Does it mean they’re going to go out of business? Should Bezos quit and give it up? Not at all. That sounds ridiculous, doesn’t it? It’s equally ridiculous to think that your organization is going to go up consistently all the time. It’s never happened in the history of network marketing. There is no company that’s been around for a few years that hasn’t had a down month. The Nature of the BusinessIt’s just the nature of business. It’s how business works. We need to stop being employees and having an employee mindset. We’ve got to be business owners. We’ve got to put on our business owner cap. We need to put on our big boy and big girl pants and understand that that’s the nature of our business, to have fluctuations. If you analyze the stock market over a 30-year timeframe, it has averaged a 10 or 11 percent growth every single year. Hopefully, depending on what stage you’re at in your organization, you’re growing at much more than 10% on a yearly basis. You certainly can do way more than that. The bottom line is the stock market, while on average it will go up 10% a year, there are down years. Some years it goes up 20%. Some years it goes down 5%. Other years it stays flat, right? Why do we think it’s different in network marketing? Dropping Rank is All Part of The GameI’ll give you one of my experiences and I’ve had many over the last 24 years. I have an organization that has grown to well over a million customers and I had to work like crazy. I had 440 customers and hit a certain rank in the company and I was so excited because my group was growing, things were happening, and I’m like, “Man, I’m going to hit the next rank. I’m only a few hundred customers away.” Then one of my leaders quits. He goes to another network marketing company and my group goes from 440 customers to 250 customers within about two months. I lost almost 200 customers in a two-month timeframe. Most people who would go through that experience would say the business model doesn’t work and they’d quit. They’re going to stop heading towards success and they’re going to get on the sidelines. They’re just going to sit back and they’re going to play the blame game. “Oh man. This business model doesn’t work. This is wrong. I can’t believe they did this to me. I don’t know if I want to do this anymore.” Thankfully, I understood it’s all part of a game. It’s just how things are. When you think things should be different, that’s the challenge. The thief of joy is expectation. When you expect things to be different from what they are, it robs you of your joy. It robs you of your certainty, hope, and faith. And when you have no faith, you’re dead. What do you do when you lose rank? You do the exact damn thing that got you to the rank in the first place. You do it again. Abundance vs ScarcityIt’s an abundance versus a scarcity mindset and most people are living in this scarcity mindset. “Oh my God! I finally got to this rank and because I have so much scarcity going on, I don’t believe I could ever do it again.” You got to flip that around and have some confidence that if you did at one time, you can certainly do it again. But now you have a major advantage because you’re not starting from zero. You have a team in place. Maybe you had some customers or some distributors or whatever quit, but you have more than just you, certainly. Your skill set is much greater. You’re a lot tougher. When You Drop Rank, It Makes You StrongerNetwork marketing is kind of like rolling a car up a hill. It’s a lot of work to get that car up the hill. At the top of the hill, it’s kind of like the full-time income. And when you get it at the top of the hill and have enough leaders that are working and doing things, then the car will just kind of roll on its own and you’ve got the residual income coming in. Until it gets to that point, you’ve got to push and push and push. The first time you go up the hill, your skills in network marketing, let’s call them your muscles, are as weak as they’ll ever be. Once you’ve done it and have gone halfway up the hill, you’ve worked those muscles and you’re stronger. When you get to the top of the hill, you’re even stronger. When you go back down to the bottom and you start a new team or you have to rebuild a team, guess what? You’re stronger than you were before. You have a higher level of leadership. You’ve probably learned to communicate better. You’ve been through so many different experiences that your muscles are stronger and you can do it again the next time. The Valley of DeathI talk a lot about the valley of death and the valley of death is what kills network marketers because they don’t think this should be happening when every business model in the world says it should be happening. It goes up and then it comes down and because it went down, you think the business model’s broken, that it doesn’t work and you quit. Realize that if you go down, the way you get back up again is by doing the same thing that got you up the first time. You show more people. It’s as simple as that. One other point that I want to cover here is how to avoid dropping rank. Avoid Dropping RankYou have to understand this concept. I could do a whole show on this but the people who got you to the rank that you’re at are not necessarily the same people who are going to get you to the next rank. You need to be building multiple teams. In your compensation plan, if it requires you to hit four leaders to get to a certain level in order to be at a certain rank, don’t go for four, go for eight. If you end up with six, you still have two leaders. If two quit, you’re still good. It’s one of the reasons why I have so much security where I am in my company’s compensation plan is because I’ve got more than what’s required. I could have 100,000 people quit on one team and I’m still the top rank because I didn’t do the minimum. I went over the minimum. You’ve got to have the mindset. Sure, we want to have positive expectations and want to expect people to be with us forever. We want to hug on them and love on them, but you got to realize that’s not always the case. You need to build some extra teams so that you don’t have to get in that situation. There Are Two Roads to SuccessSuccess is a highway and there are two lanes. You’ve got one lane leading to success. You’ve got the other lane leading to mediocrity. All of these people get on the lane heading towards success. There are tens of millions of network marketers and hundreds of millions in the history of network marketing. We hop in our company. We start heading down the road to success. We’re excited. We’re pumped up. “Man, financial freedom. Going to live my dreams. Going to empower the world.” Well, the road to success is not a straight road at all. It’s a winding road. When you’re running down the road to success, you end up in the shoulder. The Should of the RoadThe shoulder of the road is what you call frustration. You get frustrated sometimes. You’re shaking a little, you drop rank, some people quit, things happen. There’s a little chaos. When you’re in that shoulder of frustration, you think, “Oh my God. I shouldn’t be here. I shouldn’t be on the shoulder.” Then you beat yourself up and you think, “Oh my god. The business model’s broken. It’s not going to work.” And you fall off into the ditch. The ditch is discouragement. Discouragement is when you lose faith. You give up on those goals and dreams because you don’t see them as realistic anymore. So, what do you do? When you get on the shoulder of frustration, you realize that it’s all part of the what? It’s all part of the game. You’re supposed to be on the shoulder. You’re not supposed to stay on the shoulder but you’re supposed to be on the shoulder at times. If you’re going fast and the road is winding, you’re going end up there. You can’t get out of it. I’ve been there a thousand times. Sometimes, I’m even there daily. When it starts shaking like that, I know it’s all part of the game. I’m supposed to be there. I can think intelligently and I get back in the lane. I don’t beat myself up. Be Patient With Your ResultsSometimes, you have to be patient with your results and impatient with your activity. You can control your activity but sometimes you can’t control your results. Especially in the beginning. If you’re new to network marketing, I want you to realize that what you learn in the beginning is more important than what you earn. I know you’re thinking, “Bullshit. I want to earn some money,” but listen, thank God it took me five years to get to a full-time income. Why? Because it made me so much better of a leader. I went through the frustration. I’ve banged my head against the wall. I cursed myself. I had the feeling of desperation and hopelessness and I went through all that for five years. It sucked. I’m thankful that it happened because today, I’m able to lead people out of a ditch. I’m able to lead people out of the valley of death because I was in it. If you’re going through some challenges, it’s a gift, not a curse. Determination Is The Key To Your RankWhen I read Think and Grow Rich for the first time, it said that within the book lies the secret of success. I read the book and it never said what the secret was. The second time I read it, I looked for the word “secret,” and it never said it. I read it a third time to figure out what the secret was and for me, it was determination. The people who win big are the people who have that pig-headed determination that they are just not going to quit. Lots of people succeed. Why did they succeed while so many others fail? They had more determination. They were willing to stick it out long enough to figure it out, to figure out how to make it work. Don’t let a lack of determination be the reason why some people live in victory but you have to live in mediocrity. You should be thinking that there’s no way in hell you’re going to allow a lack of determination and other people beat you. I know you have problems and challenges. I know you have obstacles and excuses but there is someone with a bigger excuse than you who are living in the land of victory, who made it, who’s a millionaire today. Why did they make it even though they have a bigger excuse than you? They had more determination. Have that same level of determination. Stay on the damn road. When you get on the shoulder of frustration, realize it’s part of the game. Get Back On The Road and Keep GoingIf you drop in rank, keep showing new people, and you’ll get your rank back, and you’ll go all the way to the top, but you got to have the determination and the will to win. I hope you do. If you feel like this can add some value to some others, definitely hit the share button. via ShoeMoney http://bit.ly/2XfQEWq How to Find Your Purpose in LifeLet’s talk about being immortal and no, I’m not talking about living forever. I’m talking about creating so much of an impact in your life that you are remembered far after you are gone. And unfortunately, most people don’t have that going on. I remember back a few years ago, I got really excited about my family genealogy, so I hopped on to one of the online genealogy sites and started researching. The farthest I was able to work it up was to my sixth great grandfather, not that far, right? They didn’t keep great records back then. Come to find out, he was buried out in East Texas. My kids had a camp out there one summer, so I thought I’d drive out and see if I can find the cemetery. I finally found the cemetery. It took a little while. I had to stop and ask a few people and finally, someone knew where it was. As I walked around, going grave to grave, there sat my sixth great grandfather, Thomas Morris. I sat there looking at the grave which was kind of cool. This is my oldest known ancestor but it was also kind of sad because the online genealogy said nothing about him. He Lived, He Died and Was ForgottenIn fact, there was nothing about any of my grandfathers or ancestors online. I started thinking, “Man. I got no one in my family who’s been noteworthy, that left a mark after they were gone? My sixth great grandfather lived, died, and was very quickly forgotten. Not one time in my whole life had anyone in my family ever mentioned his name. This was just one of those moments where I’m sitting there looking at his stone, and I’m thinking, “I hope this is not going to be my fate.” It really inspired a higher level of motivation. I mean, I’ve always been motivated, but this was on a deeper level. The Thinnest Level of MotivationThere are three levels of motivation. The first level of motivation is usually where people start. It’s for money and things. You want to go buy a nice car. You want to have a nice house. Then maybe you want a Ferrari or a Lamborghini, or you want a yacht. There’s nothing wrong with those things, it’s just the first level of motivation. It’s the most shallow level of motivation. I’m not one of those people that say, “Don’t go get a Ferrari.” If that motivates you, work like crazy to get a Ferrari so that you can realize it’s not that important. I got a Ferrari and it’s kind of like an empty calorie goal. I’d drive it around and everyone would look at me and ask what I do for a living. It was kind of cool but it wore off very quickly. I realized I wasn’t motivated. I wasn’t going to move a mountain to have a nicer Ferrari or a nicer Lamborghini because it’s just surface motivation. It’s the shallowest level. Not shallow as in wrong, but shallow as in the thinnest level. What’s deeper? Deeper Motivation is Significance and Recognition.People will do more for recognition and respect than they will for the money. A lot of people deny that but any million dollar earner in Network Marketing that understands influence is going to tell you that recognition is always a bigger motivator. People will do more to get the rank than they will the money for the rank because they want the recognition for the rank. That’s true for me as well. I’ve hit the top rank in my company three times and I hit it more. My income did go up a little but my lifestyle didn’t really change. It was more for the recognition. That’s how we’re wired. We want to be significant. We want people to look up to us and to be a good person. It’s not that we just want significance to feed our ego, but if your ego tells you that you want to be a good person then I’m okay with you feeding that portion of your ego. The Deepest Level of Motivation is Your PurposeIt’s your calling. It’s why God put you on this planet. If I were to ask you why did God put you here, do you have a clear answer? The answer is no for most people and they wonder why they struggle with motivation. When I say, “Why did God put you on this earth”, they have no frickin’ clue. That’s why you’re not motivated. That’s why you struggle with a lack of self internal motivation. It’s why you’re not naturally motivated. No one is naturally motivated. You think some people are just born and they’re this machine of motivation? No. This is something we’ve got to figure out how to make work. Figure Out What Motivates YouHow do you figure out this motivation thing? Well, go to the deepest level of motivation. Start with the shallowest. If you’ve never had a fancy sports car and that’s what you want, by all means, go for it, but that’s not what’s going to motivate you long term to move mountains and become immortal. What’s going to motivate you is getting very clear on why God put you on this earth. I’m very clear. I know why God put me here. He put me here to live up to the highest potential he has for me and to help other people live up to their highest potential, to enjoy peak experiences, and adventures around the world. To make a positive impact in the lives of millions of people that leave a legacy of multigenerational love, success, wealth, and contribution from my family, to be a hero to my children. That’s why he put me here. It’s to help people live up to their highest potential. Figure Out Your Purpose in LifeWhy do I do videos and write blogs? Why am I naturally motivated to do these things? It’s part of my calling and purpose. It’s why I’m here. I couldn’t care less if someone thinks I’m an idiot for the messages I put out. I’m clear on my purpose. It doesn’t matter what anyone else says. It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. I’m going to follow my purpose. When there are struggles and challenges, I am able to stay focused on my purpose which is making an impact in the world so that when I’m gone, my impact will outlive me. So that my sixth great grandson or granddaughter will be able to look back and when they look up ‘Matt Morris’, they’re going to say, “Oh, he’s the one who wrote all those books.” “He’s the one who helped over 50 people become millionaires. He’s the one that helped create this movement of human potential. He is the one that impacted the world. He’s the inspiration. He was my grandfather’s inspiration to do big things.” That’s my future after I’m gone. That’s what I mean by becoming immortal. Making An ImpactYou may be listening to me going, “Well, yeah, but I’m afraid of people.” Congratulations. You can make a bigger impact than me. “But I’ve got this handicap.” Congratulations. You can make a bigger impact than me. Whatever your challenge is, that means you get to make a bigger impact because you’ve got a bigger challenge to overcome. It took me five years to get to a full-time income as an entrepreneur. Five years and it sucked. I hated it. I was so frustrated. I’d beat myself up all the time because I saw so many people who got started after me and pass me up. “I got in network marketing.” And all of these people are advancing in rank and I’m stuck. Year, after year, after year, I was stuck. “What’s wrong with me? I’m never going to make it. I can never be as big as these other leaders.” I use to write in all caps “HUGE NETWORKER” when I got new contacts because in my mind these people were so big I couldn’t relate to them. It felt like I was never going to be as big as them because I didn’t have it in me. That was my belief. I knew I could get to a full-time income and earn six figures but I wasn’t going to be this multimillion dollar producer or be the number one earner in a company. Your Struggles Create PurposeI am a much better leader now because I struggled for five years. Because I struggled for five years, it has allowed me to understand what it feels like to go through hell for a long period of time. I know what it feels like to beat yourself up, bang your head against the wall, and be pissed off. I know what it feels like to blame everyone. Because of all of this, I can guide people through the process. Whatever your obstacle is, whatever your challenge or excuse is, congratulations! That means you get to make a bigger impact if you don’t quit, if you keep going. Your Path Doesn’t Determine Your Future Unless You Let It.My advice is to adopt a contrary belief that says, “Because I suck so bad, this means I’m going to be way better than everyone else.” I’ve seen so many people over the last 24 years in network marketing whose teams have grown to a million customers, have made ridiculous amounts of money, a billion dollars plus in sales, all that. That’s great and all but I’ve seen so many amazingly charismatic individuals who become stuck at a level of success. One person comes to mind. They’re so freakin’ charismatic, charming, eloquent and silver-tongued, you might call it. Even though this person doesn’t have to work very hard to have a decent level of success, they have been stuck at that level of success for fucking years. Years! I lapped them. Years ago, they were ahead of me and I lapped them many times over. Why? I know what it’s like to struggle. If you know what it’s like to struggle, get excited about your future because that means you’re going to be bigger than most people. Those of you who are naturally like, “Oh man, I got it going on. I’m naturally charismatic. People like me. I have influence.” Beware. Beware of comfort. The Road to Success vs The Road to MediocrityThere are two roads. There’s a road to success and a road to mediocrity. You’re either moving towards success or you’re moving towards mediocrity. What happens is sometimes people find it fairly easy to get to a certain level of success so they park themselves over in the shoulder of comfort. Comfort is the shoulder going to mediocrity. If you stay in comfort too long, you get into complacency. You’ve got to dig deeper into the level of motivation than just your level of comfort. Why do I keep going? Why do I do what I do? I could turn my phone off, not take another call and I’d be good. I got investments that pay me money. However, I will keep going because I have a deeper level of motivation. Don’t Become ComplacentI’m not comfortable just staying where I’m at. I’m not comfortable with the level of impact I’ve made on this planet thus far. That has me naturally motivated to go do more, to create more content like this, to have someone get a click it in their mind, and go “Holy shit. I’ve been missing this.” This is why I fucked my life up. I’m not going to fuck it up anymore. Now I’m going to go rock it to the top. That’s my desire. That’s why I do this thing. I’ve already done well over a thousand videos. I’ll just do thousands more over my career. I don’t want to retire. Retiring and not doing this would be outside of my purpose. This is hopefully a wakeup call to you. Find a Deeper PurposeIf you’re in that shoulder of comfort, how do you get out of comfort and stay out of complacency? Find a deeper purpose. Why did God put you here? What’s your core purpose in life? Figure it out. Stop waiting to figure out your purpose. Some people are like, “I’m waiting for God to tell me.” God has never reached down and said, “Matt, your purpose is this.” Never. I had to figure out what my purpose is on my own. “What do I want my purpose to be? Is it in line with who I am and the values that I aspire towards?” I came up with something that inspired me, and I decided that that’s why God put me here. If you believe God is powerful, then you also have to believe that God makes us powerful enough to come up with our own purpose. Don’t whine about a lack of purpose. Create a Purpose That Inspires You and Live in it.It may change and it may get bigger. It may completely change. You won’t know unless you live in a purpose today. The way to success is a curvy road. You’ve got to live in it to understand if that’s really what you’re meant for. Here’s your homework. Figure out what your purpose is. Write it out. Find something. Make up something that inspires you, live in it and take action on it.
